  As I Was Saying
By Opal Toney

Fish tails and tall tales...
With all this pretty weather, the fishin’ is goin’ strong.
It reminds me of a story I heard way back in the early days of Cedar Creek Lake.
This guy went into Brack’s Barbeque, which was a very popular place, told everybody he had just caught a $240 fish.
Of course, they all wanted to know how that happened.
His answer was, “Well, I had this big one on my line, and I started sneezing and dropped my false teeth, but rather than loose the fish I just let my teeth go. So now I’ll have to buy some more and that’s what they cost.”
Then one day I came home from the Mabank Banner and found a pile of fish in the refrigerator.
I didn’t know where they came from ‘til Dub Hyde asked me the next day if I had fish for supper. He and the mayor, Red McDonald, had been out tryin’ their luck.
And as fishermen often do, they decided they didn’t want to clean their catch.
So, they gave ‘em to my husband. I don’t know who he conned into cleanin’ ‘em, but I do know who cooked ‘em.
Gene and Alene Smith were always avid fishers.
They used to go often, when their three girls were young. Who enjoyed going too.
One day, Alene came into the living room and found Laurette, Roylene and Theresa absorbed in gettin’ ready for a fish fry, just like they had seen their Mama and Daddy do.
The only problem was they were scaling the gold fish!
I guess fish are a lot like people. They will continue to get in trouble as long as they don’t keep their mouths shut.
As I was saying, with the pretty weather, the fishin’ is goin’ strong.
