Caddo Mills nips Malakoff girls,
3-2
Monitor Staff Reports
KAUFMAN–In truth, the playoffs started a week early for the Malakoff
Lady Tigers.
The Lady Tigers ended the regular season in a tie for third place with
Scurry-Rosser, so Friday, they faced the Lady Wildcats for the third
time, winning in three straight games.
That victory allowed Malakoff to advance to the bidistrict round of the
playoffs Tuesday night against the 22nd-ranked Caddo Mills Lady Foxes at
Kaufman High School. There, the Lady Tigers were edged in a sizzling
five-game match, 25-18, 11-25, 21-25, 25-23 and 15-6.
The Lady Tigers finished the season with a 22-12 record.
“I am very proud of the fact that our team played at a very intense
level in this match,” head coach Dick Senter said. “They performed
outside their normal play and almost upset the highly ranked Caddo Mills
Lady Foxes.”
Gentry Garrison – one of eight Lady Tiger seniors playing their last
high school volleyball match – had nine points from the service line in
the game 2 win, including the final five.
She then started the third game off with four more points, and Brittany
Bryant followed with three of her own as the Lady Tigers broke out to a
2-1 lead in the match.
Caddo Mills (30-11) was able to nip Malakoff in game 4, which saw nine
ties, and finished off the Lady Tigers in the tie-breaker.
“I am super proud of this team and especially the eight seniors on this
team,” Senter said. “They have been tremendous all season long. Serving
was again our strong suit and passing was awesome. I could not have
asked for a better performance from this group of young ladies.”
Leading servers for the Lady Tigers included Brittany Bryant, going
22-of-23 with seven aces, and Garrison, going 22-of-23 with four aces.
Meagan Elmore served 13-of-13 with one ace, while Rayvonna Garner was
17-of-19 with three aces, Alex Monroe was 12-of-13 with five aces and
Kortney Simmons was 8-of-9 with one ace.
The leading hitters were Kaitlyn Dosser, 27-of-31 with 13 kills; Tiffany
Trimble, 12-of-16 with 10 kills; and Garner, 11-of-14 with eight kills.
Garrison set the table for the offense, notching 25 assists.
Simmons led the defense with 20 digs. Monroe added six digs, Kayla
Mullins five digs and Erin Samples four digs.
Trimble came up with five big blocks.
The Lady Tigers earned their way into the bidistrict match by beating
Scurry-Rosser last Friday, 25-22, 25-16, and 25-21.
“Garrison was tremendous at the serving line, going perfect with 12
aces, as well as most of our other players for a team high 21 aces in
the three-game match,” Senter said.
“Serving has been great for most of the season,” he added. “We again
played super defense and our offense players continued to dominate,
attacking the ball, which led to the straight-set victory.”
Garrison led all servers with a sizzling 30-of-30 performance and the 12
aces. Monroe added 11-of-11 with three aces, and Brittany Bryant also
went 11-of-11 with two aces, while Garner was 9-of-10 with two aces.
Garrison also picked up 15 assists as the setter.
Dosser led the offense, going 15-of-18 at the net with eight kills.
Trimble was 13-of-14 with eight kills, and Elmore was 4-of-5 with two
kills.
Simmons notched 10 digs, with Monroe adding five digs.
