Athens celebrates HS athletes at banquet

ATHENS–Athletes were honored for their accomplishments May 4 at Athens High School.
Athens seniors Drew Horn and Karlie Cook were named the Male and Female Athlete of the Year to wrap up the banquet.
Beginning with football, Connor Clay was named the Hornets Most Valuable Player of the Year. Derek Killingsworth and Nathan Sims were named Co-Hornets of the Year.
Zoe Anderson took home the MVP award for the Lady Hornets volleyball team. Abby Garcia was named Hornet of the Year.
For girls’ cross country, Kelly Lopez was named MVP with Ellissa Comeaux taking home Hornet of the Year honors.
Brothers Micah and Hardy Swann were named boys’ cross country Co-MVPs with Cashis Lee-Brown being named Hornet of the Year.
Taylor Allen was named the Hornets’ MVP for tennis with Angel Torres and Kelley Cephus were named Co-Hornets of the Year.
Mimi McCollister was named the Lady Hornets’ basketball MVP. Karlie Cook and Kenzie Hair were named Co-Hornets of the Year.
In boys’ basketball, Connor Woodard was named Most Valuable Player. Derek Killingsworth took home Hornet of the Year honors.
For girls’ soccer, Josie Godwin was named MVP with Izabel Lopez being named Hornet of the Year. In boys’ soccer, Jesus Hernandez and Ty Arroyo were named Co-MVPs with Hornet of the Year going to Diego Castillo. 
Girls’ powerlifting MVP went to Lesley Medina with the Hornet award going to Rylann Hensley. For boys’ powerlifting, Nathan Hall was named MVP with Caleb Clemmons taking home the Hornet award.
John Haynes was named golf MVP and Connor Wilcoxson received the Hornet award.
In baseball, Juan Garcia was named MVP with Caleb Bennett receiving the Hornet award.
For the Lady Hornets’ softball squad, Abby Garcia and Jill Calkins were named Co-MVPs with Cae Cae Sneed taking home the Hornet award.
In track, Katelynn Harris was named the girls’ MVP with Micha Swann taking home the boys’ MVP. Halle Joseph and Drew Horn took home the Hornet awards. 
Trainer Rebecca Owen was named MVP with Shelby McMichael receiving the Hornet award.
Cheerleading MVP went to Ellissa Comeaux with Kaylee Passons receiving the Hornet award.
For the Hornets’ fishing team, Logan Warnock and R.L. Epps were named Co-MVPs. Anglers Caleb Bomer and Reed Allen were named Co-Hornet award winners.
