ATHENS– Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse said in a press release April 12 that an overnight shooting left one Athens man dead and another in jail, charged with illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
“We made the arrest and are handing the case over to the District Attorney for a grand jury to review,” he said.
The case is still under investigation.
William Lebleu, 33, was from the Athens area. He was shot twice with a shotgun around 7 p.m. at a residence in the 200 block of Brentwood Circle.
He was pronounced dead after being airlifted to a Tyler hospital.
Stewart Prewitt, 53, also from Athens and a convicted felon, was arrested at the scene and charged with having the weapon used to kill Lebleu.
During the day, the two men argued repeatedly, and Lebleu went to the residence south of Athens with what appeared to be a handgun.
When he brandished the weapon, which later proved to be an airsoft gun, Prewitt shot him.
Along with the Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Rangers, Department of Public Safety and the Henderson County District Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.
Bond was set at $15,000 in the unlawful possession charge.
