GUN BARREL CITY–Gun Barrel City is losing its Bealls store, a staple in clothing shopping in the area. Bealls occupies part of the space left by the old Winn Dixie grocery store and was one of the first stores to go in when the shopping center, Gun Barrel City Plaza, was created.
But it’s not all bad news. According to sources within the store, the store will be converted into a Gordmans. The Bealls location has been receiving merchandise for both Bealls and Gordmans, so stock is expected to be heavy for the Store Closing Sale.
According to Chainstoreage.com, Stage Stores acquired Gordmans in March 2017 when the chain filed for bankruptcy. Stage Stores is in the process of converting Bealls locations to Gordmans, approximately 40 stores at a time.
Gordmans is an off-price store which carries clothing, along with an expanded line of household items, including décor. Bealls had already expanded the Home Goods section in the current format. The “Store Closing” sign was up Monday morning and the bargains are available all over the store.
No information was available on projected dates for the completion of the conversion. By the end of 2020, Stage Stores expects to have nearly 300 Gordmans off-price stores, representing almost 50% of the company’s total sales volume.
