Bobcats sting Yellowjackets to open 2021 season

MERIDIAN–The Kerens Bobcats started their season on a strong note with a definitive win over the Meridian Yellowjackets Aug. 27.
The Bobcats’ defense held strong as they only allowed one score, topping the ’Jackets 32-7.
Kerens opened the scoring just five minutes into the first quarter as the Bobcats jumped in front 7-0 on a four-yard touchdown run by Mykel Lattimore.
The defense jumped in on the scoring shortly after as the Bobcats picked up the pick six to add to their lead as they went ahead 13-0.
Lattimore added his second touchdown of the first quarter on an 18-yard run to increase the Bobcats lead to 20-0.
The defense contributed for the second time on a fumble return for a touchdown as Kerens continued to dominate the first quarter as they held a 26-0 stranglehold.
A 52-yard touchdown run from the ’Jackets ended Kerens’ shutout as they made it 26-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Each team was held scoreless in the second and third quarter as Kerens held their lead heading into fourth quarter.
Brayden May added the final score on a three-yard touchdown run to close out the game as Kerens topped Meridian.
May went 15/21 with 134 passing yards and three touchdown passes.
Lattimore picked up two touchdowns on 12 carries along with 85 rushing yards.
Kerens (1-0) take on Blooming Grove (0-1) in their home opener at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3.
