Candidates speak at The Roost Cafe

EUSTACE–Eustace ISD will be holding elections Saturday, May 4 and many of the candidates met at The Roost Cafe April 6 to talk with community members and tell a little about themselves.
Jamie Potter, running for Place 3, says his slogan is “a fresh start.” Potter is currently on the school board since he stepped in for the departing Sonny Hodges. Potter has lived in Eustace for more than 20 years and is very involved in the community. He has two children that have graduated from Eustace schools.
Dianne Shaffer has been in Eustace for over 30 years and she is a retired teacher and principal for Eustace ISD. Shaffer offers euthusiam and caring about kids. She is running for Place 3.
Blake Ward wants to create an environment everybody wants to be a part of. He wants to be the voice of the community and get more involved with school activities. He is running for Place 3.
Leslie Smith is also running for Place 3 and has owned a barber shop in Eustace since 2008. She has lived in Eustace for 15 years and has three children attending school. Smith looks forward to being of service to the community and being a good role model.
Michael Cates is in construction and is a retired firefighter. Cates has previously served on the board for five years. He has twin daughters who are seniors and one son who is currently a junior. He is running for Place 3.
Jack Kile is running for Place 4 and is a Eustace graduate. He believes kids are our number one commodity and that EISD is way behind on technology compared to neighboring schools. Jack wants to be a part of pushing school technology into the 21st century.
Katie McCallister graduated EISD in 2003, moved to Arlington to get her degree and then moved back to Eustace so her kids could go to school here. She says she would like to pay back the kindness shown to her when she was in school.  Members of her family have also served on the school board. She is running for Place 4.
Karyn Mullen is running for Place 7. She is a retired educator with 28 years of experience and holds a Masters degree in education with superintendent certification. She supports and encourages all aspects of the school district including academics, athletics, technology, dual credit and more. She is willing to collaborate and treats holding the position as one of service not entitlement. She has been in Eustace over 20 years.
Larry Tiner is also running for Place 7. He has lived in Eustace for 24 years and has three daughters, two of which have graduated Eustace schools. Larry has a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Development and is active in the Eustace Young Farmers. He wants to continue the excellent job of educating EISD students.
Bobby Carl Ashton and Steven Bell did not attend the forum.
