CDC confirms first coronavirus case in East Texas

CEDAR CREEK LAKE–The first positive case of COVID-19, commonly known as coronavirus, has been confimed in Gregg County, according to reports and the person is under self-imposed quarrantine in their home.
In the latest figures available at press time Tuesday, of 116,694 confirmed cases worldwide, 791 cases are in the U.S. with 13 in Texas. There have been no deaths due to the virus in Texas. Washington State has reported 23 deaths, most in the Life Care Center in Kirkland. Two deaths have been reported in California and two in Florida.
The CDC has issued guidelines for those at great risk including persons over 60 years of age and anyone with serious chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease or lung disease. They include stocking up on supplies and medications, avoiding crowds and any unneccessary air travel or cruises.
Everyone is encouraged to wash hands frequently, avoid close contact with those who may be sick and avoid crowds. For more information, visit cdc.gov/coronavirus.
