City recieves Downtown Association Award

ATHENS–The City of Athens received the award for "Best Renovation/Rehabilitation/Restoration" for The Texan: A Landmark Venue in the competitive Texas Downtown Association’s President’s Award program for its impact to downtown revitalization and development efforts for the City of Athens.

Present to receive the award at the annual Texas Downtown Association Conference in Corpus Christi Nov. 7, on behalf of the City was City Manager, Elizabeth Borstad and Community Services Coordinator, Adrianna Hinds.

"This is a huge honor for the City of Athens," said City Manager, Elizabeth Borstad. "The City would like to extend a special thank you to the Head family for their generous donation of The Texan, the Texan Design Committee for their creativity and vision, the Mayor and Council for their decision to renovate and restore The Texan, and the citizens of Athens for their support of this exciting project. We look forward to witnessing the transformative impact that we know The Texan will have on our downtown and it’s growth!"

The Texas Downtown Association was established in 1985 to connect and serve communities that are committed to downtown vitality. The organization is an independent, statewide nonprofit that represents cities and towns of all sizes, economic development corporations, chambers of commerce, local organizations, small businesses, and individuals.
