ATHENS–Henderson County Commissioners took a historic step Tuesday in rescinding a 1989 Freeport-denying resolution that allowed the county to continue collecting property tax on business inventory. This collection has accounted for over a million dollars in the county’s annual budget. The potential from continuing to collect on inventory as ad valorem tax revenue this year is nearly $2 million, according to Athens Economic Development Executive Director Lisa Denton.
