HENDERSON COUNTY–During the first 10 months of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Henderson County Jail only saw one positive case of COVID-19. Now in the past couple of weeks there have been 18 inmates positive with COVID-19 and 12 officers who are out because of the virus.
“It seems to be going fairly well,” Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse said. “I don’t really have anybody that’s critical. We’ve got the nursing staff and the doctors working with us. They are doing an excellent job.”
Due to the increase in cases, Hillhouse has kept a shift in reserve at the jail quarantined at home just in case. Hillhouse stated that if staffing became an issue due to COVID-19 the Sheriff’s Office would reach out to surrounding counties for assistance.
