MABANK-In a regular scheduled city council meeting, on Nov. 5 the City of Mabank heard a proposal from Ben Ralston of Ralston Outdoor Adverting Company regarding a new digital billboard. The digital LED billboard would be installed just East of the Mabank McDonalds on U.S. Highway 175 and State Highway 198.
The proposed digital billboard will have one advertising slot on the digital face for exclusive use of city and Economic Development Committee (EDC) marketing. Additional city uses can include severe weather and other emergency purposes. “The sky is the limit on the flexibility, you can do burn bans, material lists for the school district, or any type of city festival,” Ralston stated. In addition to the digital billboard, Ralston Outdoor will replace the existing City of Mabank sign with a new 10’x20’ steel monopole. Ralston Outdoor will provide two free vinyl change-outs for the city per year.
Ralston continued,“The model that we run on this sign is a seven to eight slot model where we will have one slot for the city or EDC, and six to seven advertisers.” Several examples of previous models in other cities were also shown to the city council.
Ralston concluded his presentation to the city council by saying, “You can easily change the message throughout the year, and I think there would be some good value for the city and EDC in terms of marketing different events whether its ‘get out and vote,’ so I think it’s a good opportunity to bring something back to the city.”
The digital billboard sign was unanimously approved by the city council, and Ralston of Ralston Outdoor Adverting Company, will move forward with obtaining permits from the state.
A public hearing was opened at the beginning of the meeting and remained opened for 20 minutes for discussion on the Petition requesting Annexation of 12.300 acres, Lot TR 2P5, AB 794 GT Walters Survey Document #2018-00011224 (Groom Family Limited Partners). To annex everything within the ETJ of Mabank according to the judge’s ruling in 2003 in reference to the city limit boundaries. Once the hearing was closed the council voted and approved the annexation thereby adopting Ordinance 2019-04.
