Longtime boyfriend remains behind bars accused of murder

HENDERSON COUNTY–Dameon Tarrel Williams, 29, remains behind bars in the Henderson County Jail accused of the murder of his girlfriend Ashley Koonce, 27.
Koonce is the mother of three children and according to reports, was fleeing a domestic violence situation when she was shot. Police were called to a residence in the 1600 block of County Road 3722 in Athens after a caller reported that his sister had been shot. According to reports, the call came in shortly after oon Feb. 22. When police arrived, Koonce was found deceased in the front yard with multiple gunshot wounds.
Athens Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office and the Henderson County District Attorney’s Office. Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Randy Daniel pronounced Koonce deceased.
Williams turned himself in to Athens Police Department and remains in Henderson County Jail with bond set at $1 million. The case is under investigation by APD Criminal Investigations. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Taylor Rice at (903) 675-5454 or Crimestoppers (800) 545-8477.
Koonce’s brother made a plea on a local television station to be aware of domestic violence and leave before it is too late. He said, “I don’t want to see anyone else go through this.” A Go Fund Me account has been set up to assist the family with funeral expenses and care for the three young children she leaves behind.
