MABANK–The Mabank Panthers dropped their pre-Christmas day matchup against the Lindale Eagles at home Dec. 22.
The offense was the main issue for the Panthers Tuesday afternoon as they lost by over double to the Eagles, 52-21.
Landry Johnson and Caden Smith were the lone scorers for the Panthers in the opening eight minutes of the first quarter as the Eagles took a 5-4 lead into the second quarter.
After a shot from Johnson put Mabank in front, the Eagles went on a second-quarter tear. The Eagles pushed back in front behind a 7-0 run, leading to a Mabank timeout with 5:48 remaining in the first half as they trailed 12-6.
Smith added a late shot for the Panthers, but a 10-4 run after the Mabank timeout had the Eagles sitting comfortably at halftime with a 22-10 lead.
The Panthers struggled defensively in the third quarter as they allowed the first eight points with Josh German picking up the first points of the quarter with 2:45 left on a three-point shot to make it a 30-13. Sean Henry added a late free throw, but the Eagles held an impressive 40-14 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Jaydon Reeder picked up a free throw in the fourth quarter along with a layup from Cade Wilson, but the Panthers couldn’t complete the comeback as the Eagles took home the 52-21 win.
Wilson led the Panthers in scoring with eight points with Smith and Johnson adding four points each in the loss to the Eagles.
German notched three points with Henry and Reeder each adding one point apiece.
The Panthers fell to 5-5 overall on the season with the loss to the Eagles as they enter 2021.
