EUSTACE–Eustace Independent School District had a student test positive for COVID-19 and that the student did participate in the summer workout program.
Out of an overabundance of caution, Eustace has suspended the summer workout program until Thursday, July 9. The suspension also includes the summer cross country workouts.
Eustace Athletic Director Monty Leaf also gave an update on what workouts will look like when athletes return July 9.
“When we return July 9th, we will be splitting the cross country workouts,” Leaf said on Twitter. “Girls’ cross country will begin at 7 (a.m.). Boys’ cross country will be at 8 (a.m.). All other strength and conditioning program times will remain the same.”
The district will make sure that all inside areas that were used in the summer workout program will be disinfected beyond what is normally done. Parents are urged to monitor their children for signs of the virus, such as coughing and fever.
“I know that our students and coaches were enjoying the summer workout program,” Eustace ISD Superintendent Dr. Coy Holcombe said in a statement. “This is not an end to the program, just a two-week pause. If you have any questions, please let me know.”
