Essie Mae Young, 88, of Kemp passed away Jan. 4, 2022. Essie was born July 9, 1933 in Tool to parents Charles Hooper and Myrtle Sutton.
Christian by faith, she attended Lakeview Assembly of God in Seven Points for several years. Essie enjoyed cooking meals for her monthly gathering with her fellow congregation. She loved yard work and riding her lawn mower on warm and sunny days.
Essie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lawrence Cecil Young, brothers Jack, George, Lloyd and Floyd David Hooper, sisters Minnie Pearl Stewart and Mary Coker.
She is survived by daughters Joyce Crist of Athens, Loretta McCleary and husband Charles of Cross Roads and Judy Smith of Scurry, granddaughters Amy Stelter and Linda Stanfield, grandsons Robert, Jeff and Aaron Smith and Cody McCleary, 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, two special nephews Phil and Charles Spivey along with other numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service was held Jan. 6, 2022 in the Chapel of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home, followed by a Graveside service at King Cemetery in Alley Community.
