Lady Bulldogs move to 7-1 with win over Kemp
KEMP–The Eustace Lady Bulldogs kept their strong district play alive Sept. 29 with another victory over the Kemp Yellowjackets on the road.
The Eustace Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady ’Jackets in four sets 25-22, 24-26, 25-22 and 26-24.
After Kemp led early in the first set, Eustace pushed ahead 10-7. A 6-2 run from the Lady ’Jackets put them back in front, 13-12, forcing a Lady Bulldogs timeout.
A late kill from Georgia Utz put the Lady Bulldogs ahead 19-16, which led to a Kemp timeout.
Kemp made a late push, but Eustace picked up the victory in the first set, 25-22.
After taking a 4-2 lead in the second set, Eustace allowed the next two points to Kemp as they tied the set 4-4. Back-to-back kills from Julianna Warren put Kemp in front 6-5.
After taking a late 24-19 lead and needing just one more point, Kemp would not relent as they rattled off seven straight points to end the set with a win, 26-24.
Eustace took the last two sets 25-22 and 26-24 as they picked up their seventh district win of the season.
Rubi Bailey led the Lady Bulldogs with 19 kills against the Lady ’Jackets. Utz added nine kills while Emma Bell notched seven kills.
The loss drops the Lady ’Jackets to 0-11 overall and 0-6 in district play. Kemp returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 13 at home against the Malakoff Lady Tigers at 6 p.m.
The win moves the Lady Bulldogs to 14-1 overall and 7-1 in district play. Eustace hits the court again Oct. 13 at home against the Rice Lady Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m.
