Eustace falls after late Malakoff surge

Lady Bulldogs downed by Lady Tigers in district play

MALAKOFF–The Eustace Lady Bulldogs dropped their district contest with the Malakoff Lady Tigers April 2 on the road.
The Lady Bulldogs began the top of the first inning with a single by Alyssa Lane, followed by a sacrifice bunt to move Lane over to second base. The Lady Bulldogs came up scoreless after Malakoff pitcher Kinleigh Dalrymple ended the inning with a strikeout.
A leadoff single from Joey White started the inning off on the right foot for the Lady Tigers in the bottom of the first. White stole second base and advanced to third base on a Eustace wild pitch. Zy’maijah Thomas delivered with an RBI single to put Malakoff ahead 1-0. Thomas then scored on a groundout and a throwing error from the Eustace defense to put the Lady Tigers ahead 2-0 after one inning.
Dalrymple then sent the Lady Bulldogs down in order in the top of the second inning to put the Lady Tigers back at the plate.
A two-out single from Aerial Posey put runners on second and third base with two outs for the Lady Tigers in the bottom half of the inning. White came through in the clutch with a two-out RBI single to push the Lady Tigers ahead 3-0.
The big inning came in the top of the third for the Lady Bulldogs as their offense finally found a spark. Two singles from Nancy Paige Lowe and Lane, followed by a fielder’s choice loaded the bases with one out for Eustace. Dawson Davlin plated a run on a walk to get Eustace on the board. Lauren Herring came through for the Lady Bulldogs with a two-run double to tie the game 3-3.
Posey took over on the mound for the Lady Tigers in relief of Dalrymple with one out. Kayla Lovelady delivered an RBI single to give the Lady Bulldogs their first lead of the night 4-3.
Denver Starkes led off the bottom of the third inning with a single and advanced to third on a stolen base and wild pitch. Josie Driskell tied the game up for the Lady Tigers on an RBI sacrifice fly 4-4. The Lady Tigers tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 7-4 lead.
The Lady Tigers plated two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to increase their lead to 9-4 after four innings of play.
The Lady Bulldogs answered with a run in the top of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 9-5.
The Lady Tigers rattled off five runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a huge 14-5 lead entering the sixth inning.
After holding Eustace off the board, the Lady Tigers ended the Lady Bulldogs’ night with a single run in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 15-5 district victory over Eustace.
Kayla Lovelady racked up two hits and two RBIs in the loss against Malakoff. Herring added two RBIs in their district contest as well.
The loss drops the Lady Bulldogs to 7-15-1 overall this season. Eustace return to the field Tuesday, April 12 after a bye week as they take on the Mildred Eaglettes with first pitch at 6 p.m. on the road.
