PALMER–The Eustace Bulldogs opened district play with a 56-47 win over the Palmer Bulldogs on the road Dec. 18.
JR Patek and Cooper Reeve hit back-to-back three-point shots early in the first quarter to put Eustace ahead 8-5. A 4-0 run from Palmer put them ahead of Eustace 9-8.
Patek put in a late layup but Palmer held the lead, 14-12 at the end of the first quarter.
A layup tied the game early in the second quarter. Paxton Schwartz followed that up with a three-pointer to trim Palmer’s lead to 19-18. Reeve added a late layup but Palmer sat in front 26-24 at halftime.
Jayson Losiewicz notched an early three-pointer and picked up an and-1 to push Eustace ahead, 32-26 in the third quarter. Eustace held a slim 38-35 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Schwartz hit two early free throws to increase Eustace’s lead to 42-37. Palmer cut the deficit to 44-40 and taking a timeout in the first two minutes to try and close the gap.
Eustace ended the game on a 12-7 run to move to 1-0 in district play with the 56-47 win over Palmer.
Scwhartz led Eustace with 17 points while Reeve delivered with 15 points in the victory.
