Lady Bulldogs plate 14 runs, top Lady ’Jackets
EUSTACE–The Eustace Lady Bulldogs varsity softball squad mercy-ruled the Kemp Lady Yellowjackets 14-4 on their home field March 10.
With Brooklyn Moore on the mound for the Lady Bulldogs, Eustace sent down all three Kemp batters in order to begin their contest.
Moore then led off the bottom of the first inning with a single. Alyssa Lane followed Moore with an RBI double to give Eustace an early 1-0 lead.
Gracey Pitchford added an RBI single of her own to increase the Eustace lead to 2-0.
A two-run single by Lauren Herring, followed by an inside-the-park home run from Emma Reynolds made it 5-0 in favor of the Lady Bulldogs.
Kimberly Lugo drove in a run on an RBI single before two more runs scored for Eustace on a Kemp wild pitch as the Lady Bulldogs took a commanding 8-0 lead after the first inning.
Kemp got a leadoff single in the top of the second inning for their first baserunner of the game.
Samantha Woods reached for the Lady ’Jackets on a fielder’s choice and an error, which put runners at second and third with no outs for Kemp.
Kemp pitcher Genesis Forman delivered with a two-run single before scoring on a wild pitch just a few pitches later as Kemp cut the Eustace lead to 8-3 after 1.5 innings.
Pitchford reached on an error to begin the bottom of the second inning. Ashton Milner and Emma Fisher followed with back-to-back walks to load the bases for the Lady Bulldogs with no outs.
Forman was able to limit the damage for Kemp as she allowed just back-to-back RBI walks to Lugo and Emma Bell as Eustace led 10-3 after two innings.
Moore allowed just a two-out walk in the top of the third before a lineout ended the half inning for Kemp.
Eustace got three runs from an error, an RBI single by Reynolds and a groundout later in the inning as they increased their lead to 13-3 entering the top of the fourth inning.
Kemp scored one run in the fourth on a wild pitch to cut the Eustace lead back down to 13-4.
Reynolds led off the bottom of the fifth inning for the Lady Bulldogs with an opposite field triple with Eustace needing just one run to end the game.
Eustace did just that as they closed out the 14-4 victory on a sacrifice fly.
Kemp received a big effort from Forman as she added two RBIs for the Lady ’Jackets.
Reynolds led the way with three hits in the game for the Lady Bulldogs with Bell adding two hits against Kemp.
Fisher and Lugo each notched two RBIs for Eustace in the victory.
Moore wrapped up another complete game victory for Eustace, going five innings while allowing four runs and striking out three.
The loss drops the Lady ’Jackets to 3-5 overall on the season. Kemp returns to action after Spring Break on the road March 20 at 6 p.m. against the Palmer Lady Bulldogs.
The win moves the Lady Bulldogs 7-8-2 overall in 2020. Eustace hits the field Tuesday, March 17 on the road against Tyler Robert E. Lee with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
