Filing closes for May 2 local election

CEDAR CREEK LAKE–As early voting is underway for Republican and Democratic Primaries, filing for the local city and school board elections has now closed. Early voting for these local elections will begin April 20 and end April 28. Elections in which there are no opponents for the open places, may be canceled.
The City of Athens has three council seats available. Place 2 Councilman Aaron Smith is unopposed, Place 3 incumbent Edward McCain is challenged by Sytonia Freeman and in Place 4, Robert Gross is unopposed.
Gun Barrel City
In Gun Barrel City, Mayor David Skains has no opponent for his second term as Mayor. Place 2 Councilman Ron Wyrick has served the maximum years consecutive. For his seat (East) Rob Rea and Rita Evans have filed to run. In Place 4 (West), Incumbent Councilwoman Anne Mullins will face challenger Kathi Nailling.
City of Kemp Councilpersons Place 1 Leona Bounds, Place 3 Lesley Rose and Place 5 Jackie Self have no opponents.
The City of Kerens has three at-large council seats available. Incumbents Brandon Blue, Gregory Allen and Ann Fessenden face challenger Brent Warren.
The City of Eustace has three seats available on the council. Chuck Powers, Randy Johnson and Adrian Parham face no opponents.
Log Cabin City
Log Cabin City residents will have five candidates to choose from to fill three at-large council seats. Incumbents Rodney Allen and Jessica Abbe will face off with Lynn Amundson, Larry Sutherland and Eddie “Bubba Jean” Pogue.
The City of Mabank has three council seats at-large. Incumbents Dennis Terry, John Chappell and Tyson Adams face challenger Gilbert Mitchell.
The City of Malakoff has three council seats at-large. Voters will choose from incumbents Jerrilyn Tarver, Vincent Bailey and Kevin Kilman and challengers Rickey L. Baker and Thomas Posey.
Seven Points
The City of Seven Points will choose from Skippy Waters and Gerald Taylor to fill the Mayor’s seat. Three council seats are sought by Cheryl Jones (incumbent), Andrew Morrow and Chuck White.
Star Harbor
The City of Star Harbor Mayor Warren Claxton is unopposed. Incumbent councilmen Tommy Clark and David Morris face contender Richard Haley.
Athens ISD
Athens ISD Place 1 Eugene Buford is unopposed, Place 2 Alicea Elliot faces challenger Bryan Barker.
Kemp ISD
Please 1 Charissa Roberts faces challenger Matt Gross. In Place 2 currently held by Rusty Clamon, only Carole Williams has filed to run.
Kerens ISD
Kerens ISD has two seats available for which Randy Bancroft (incumbent) and Tyrone Bailey have filed.
Mabank ISD
Mabank ISD Place 4 Erik Tijerina is unopposed. Place 5 Todd Grimes faces Bryan Miller for his seat.
