GUN BARREL CITY–Last Spring, Gun Barrel City Fire Fighter Blane Arrington was reading a firefighting magazine and learned about the Intelagard, Inc.Company donating their firefighting products to local fire departments. For a department to be eligible, the department had to fill out an online entry form and Fire fighter Arrington did just that.
In July the department learned that Gun Barrel City Fire Department was one of the contest winners of an Intelagard McCaw Compressed Air Form (CAF) backpack. The McCaw CAF system is a backpack that has a firefighting air bottle and a tank that holds water and foam. A firefighter wears this unit on their back to deliver foam to put out grass fires and can be used in the mop up stages of a structure fire. The system is very versatile and will make it easier for firefighters to get into areas that a traditional hose line would take more time and effort.
Aug. 17 President of Vitalmedix Jeffery Gurley, a distributor for Intelagard, delivered and demonstrated the McCaw CAF backpack.
Gun Barrel City Fire Chief Joseph Lindaman commented, “I appreciate Intelagard's donation of the McCaw CAF backpack to our department. Our firefighters have completed training on the McCaw system. We have put it into service and will be using it to fight wildland and structure fires.”
