KERENS–Around 8:30 p.m. Saturday night, several area fire departments responded to a fire at Kerens Elementary School. Kerens, Powell and Corsicana firefighters responded to the scene.
A fire was discovered in a portable unit which housed the motor lab for special education students and an art studio. The unit was empty so no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time but further invesigation is still pending.
“We were very lucky and blessed,” Superintendent Martin Brumit said.
“I am grateful for the firefighters who responded so quickly,” Brumit said.
The portable unit will most likely have to be replaced due to extreme smoke damage on one side.
