ATHENS–The Athens Hornets picked up a dominant win on homecoming night as they topped the Fairfield Eagles Sept. 17.
The Hornets used a strong 22-point first quarter as they grounded the Eagles, 43-14.
The Hornets got on the board first in the game on a 29-yard touchdown run from Ty Arroyo to take a 7-0 lead five minutes into the first quarter.
Arroyo connected with Jaden Crane on a 16-yard pass late in the first quarter to increase the Hornets lead to 13-0 after a missed point after attempt.
The Athens’ defense got in on the scoring as well as they picked up a safety in the final minute to take a 15-0 lead.
Athens added their third touchdown of the quarter on a 61-yard touchdown catch by Jamauri Manning as the Hornets entered the second quarter in front 22-0.
Crane picked up his second touchdown of the game on a 19-yard catch to increase their lead to 29-0 entering halftime.
Arroyo notched his second touchdown of the night o a 36-yard run to make it a 36-0 game.
The Eagles finally got on the scoreboard with under a minute remaining in the third quarter as they entered the fourth quarter trailing 36-6.
Desmond Garrett added the final touchdown on a six-yard touchdown catch as the Hornets notched a huge 43-14 win over the Eagles.
Arroyo had quite the night for the Hornets as he finished 17/30 with 293 passing yards and four touchdown passes. He added 11 carries for 135 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Crane added six catches for 67 yards and two touchdowns in the win over the Eagles.
Garrett had 98 yards on four carries and one touchdown run.
Athens (3-0) looks to keep their perfect streak alive Sept. 17 as they travel to take on the Wills Point Tigers (0-3).
