Athens battles in loaded seven-team district

ATHENS–In a revamped seven-team district, the Athens Hornets looks to continue the success of their return to the playoffs from the 2019 season and carry that energy into 2020.
The Hornets edged out the Mabank Panthers for the fourth and final playoff spot last season after going 6-5 with a 2-3 district record. Athens would eventually fall in the Bi-district round to the Carthage Bulldogs.
The preseason predictions have the Hornets on the outside looking in, but Harrell expects his team to compete in a tough district that now includes No.18-ranked Lindale with Kilgore and Henderson ranked 20th and 22nd respectively.
In his second year at the helm of the Hornets, Head Coach Zach Harrell hopes to avoid the preseason predictions and focuses on his team and whatever it takes to make them better.
