TYLER–The Kemp Yellowjackets came up short of where they ended last postseason as they fell to the Atlanta Rabbits in the Area round at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium in Tyler Nov. 23.

The Rabbits got on the board first after they recovered a Kemp fumble on their own 23-yard line. Shortly after, the Rabbits connected on a 72-yard pass to jump ahead early 7-0 just four minutes into the first quarter.

The Rabbits forced another turnover as they intercepted a pass by Cameron Clamon on Kemp’s 48-yard line.

After Kemp regained possession and gave the ball back, the Rabbits added another score on a 41-yard touchdown pass to take a 14-0 lead with three minutes remaining in the first quarter.

The ’Jackets answered back in the final two minutes on a long 64-yard pass by Clamon to Brock Dedie for a touchdown to cut the lead to 14-7 after a successful extra point by Fabian Lujan.

Kemp tied the game on a quarterback keep by Clamon as he took the ball 63 yards downfield to make it a 14-14 game with 6:11 left in the first half.

The Rabbits got a huge lift as they scored on a 38-yard pass in the final minute to take a 21-14 lead into halftime over the ’Jackets.

The score remained the same late into the third quarter before the Rabbits completed a five-yard touchdown pass to double their lead to 28-14. With five minutes remaining in the quarter.

The ’Jackets were unable to respond and the Rabbits added a score late on a 28-yard rush into the endzone to take a 35-14 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

A nice 54-yard run by Kemp senior running back Desmond Jones set up a 13-yard touchdown run for Dylan Ashcraft to make it a 35-21 game with 8:55 remaining in regulation.

The Rabbits added one final score on a 15-yard touchdown run with 5:54 left to win the Area championship and eliminate the Yellowjackets.
