’Jackets complete comeback win over Harmony for third
GRAND SALINE–The Kemp Yellowjackets boys’ varsity basketball team finished third after a strong performance at the Grand Saline varsity tournament Dec. 2-4.
After a strong outing in Grand Saline, the ’Jackets now sit at 6-3 overall on the season.
Kemp topped Elysian Fields early on, 57-34, to start the tournament on a high note.
The ’Jackets were led by a 23-point performance from Halen Cromer and double digits from Jayden Gonzalez, who added 10 points in the win.
Kemp came short in their contest against the host Grand Saline as they fell 63-40.
Gonzalez contributed another double-digit performance with 13 points with Deacon Thompson delivering eight points in the loss.
Cromer’s 21 points and Gonzalez’s 14 points held the ’Jackets overcome Alba-Golden in their third contest with a 47-45 victory.
Thompson added eight points with Blake Peyton notching six points for Kemp.
The ’Jackets then suffered a tough 62-28 defeat at the hands of Brownsboro.
Cromer once again led the pack with 14 points and Kemp received seven points from Thompson.
The loss set up a battle for third place between Kemp and Harmony.
With Kemp trailing by 17 points in the fourth quarter, the ’Jackets dug down and found the will to battle back as they overcame the 17-point deficit to defeat Harmony as they took the lead with 33 seconds remaining, defeating Harmony 59-56 to take home third place.
Cromer exploded for 29 points in the win over Harmony with Peyton putting up 10 points.
Gonzalez added nine points and Juan Galindo scored five points in the win for the ’Jackets.
