Kemp wraps up 2018-19 athletic season

KEMP–The Kemp Yellowjackets honored all the 2018-19 student-athletes for their hard work and dedication throughout the school year along with family, friends and coaches at Kemp High School May 16.
The Kemp Yellowjackets varsity football team had an impressive season to follow up on their run to the State semifinals in 2018 as they finished up the year as District champions with a 9-3 overall record after going undefeated in district play. The ’Jackets also took home the Bi-district championship over Lone Oak before falling to Atlanta in the Area round of the playoffs.
The Offensive Lineman of the Year was Logan Bray, the Defensive Lineman of the Year was Ryan Crow, Secondary was Jaise Bowie, Linebacker of the Year was awarded to Fabian Lujan and Offensive Back/Receiver of the Year was Desmond Jones. Boomer Irvin took home the honor of Defensive Player of the Year with Cameron Clamon receiving the Offensive Player of the Year award. Dakota Price and Damon Ford each took home the Yellow Jacket award and the Most Valuable Player went to Darel Booker.
The Lady Yellowjackets volleyball team finished up 2018 with a 20-19 record while finishing 6-8 in district play and just missing out on a postseason berth. One big highlight of the 2018 season was Head Coach Mike Hill picking up his 600th career win with the Lady ’Jackets.
Senior Alicia Dennis picked up the Outstanding Player and Outstanding Hitter for the Lady ’Jackets, Chloe Wood was named the Outstanding Passer, the Yellow Jacket award went to Kenzee King, Outstanding Blocker was Julianna Warren and Outstanding Server was Evelyn Mireles. Wrapping up her final season at Kemp High School and taking home volleyball MVP was Alicia Dennis.
The cross-country Heart and Hustle award went to both Lilia Fonseca and Jaden Gaston for the 2018 season. Most Improved boys’ Runner was Chris Mejia and the Most Improved girls’ runner was Janet Herrera. After the end of another hard-fought season in the sun preparing for the season, the Most Outstanding Runner awards went to Deisy Galindo Soto and Garret Clark.
For the varsity baseball team, Pitcher of the Year went to Dakota Price, Rookie of the Year was Joseph Frey, the Leadership award went to Cameron Clamon, the Offensive Player of the Year was Cameron Fiatte, the Defensive Player of the Year was Dylan Ashcraft and the Yellowjacket MVP went to catcher Noah Herring.
The Lady ’Jackets softball Most Improved player went to Morgan Adrio, the Lady Jacket Award went to Jalyn Yakesch, Utility Player of the Year was Madison Williams, Defensive Player of the Year was Chloe Woods, Offensive Player of the Year was Genesis Forman and Emri Carson took home the Lady Jacket MVP.
Boys’ soccer Heart and Hustle went to Luis Soto with the girls’ Heart and Hustle going to Lilia Fonseca. Defensive Player of the Year went to Jonhatan Mendez and Syria Maldonado, Midfield Player of the Year was Alex Gonzalez and Jocabet Villanueva and the soccer Offensive Players of the Year were Alan Lujan and Evelyn Mireles. The boys’ MVP went to Fabian Lujan with Gabrielle Sherrill taking home the girls’ MVP award.
For the girls’ basketball squad, Lady Jacket Heart and Hustle went to Jaylynn Hefti, Sportsmanship Award went to Lauren Simons and the Highest Free Throw Percentage was shared between Alicia Dennis and Autumn Brown. The Defensive Player of the Year went to Chloe Woods, the Offensive Player of the Year was Julianna Warren and the overall MVP for the Lady ’Jackets went to Alicia Dennis.
For the boys’ basketball team, the Longevity/Endurance award went to Mason Claver, the Leadership award was given to Jaise Bowie, the Offensive MVP was Cameron Clamon and the team MVP was Boomer Irvin.
In powerlifting, the Boys’ Outstanding Lifter for the 2019 season was Jonhatan Mendez while the Girls’ Outstanding Lifter award went to both Andrea Beasley and Bethany Alexander. The Best All-Around Lifter for 2019 went to Alicia Dennis.
In track and field, Thomas Stinson took home the Heart and Hustle award, Garret Clark was the Outstanding Distance Runner, Desmond Tutson took home Outstanding Sprinter, Outstanding Thrower was Teague Stewart, the Leadership award went to Desmond Jones, Outstanding Jumper was Alicia Dennis and Travis Munden took home the Outstanding Hurdler award.
Wrapping up the 2018-19 athletic season was the Kemp golf team. The Most Improved Golfer went to Ethyn Irvin with Boomer Irvin being named the Golfer of the Year.
One of the unsung heroes of the athletic season are the trainers and those who help the athletes and coaching staff along the way during the school year. To show their appreciation for all their hard work, Nailea Salinas took home the Student Trainer of the Year award.
Taking home the honor of Yellowjacket Athletes of the Year were seniors Boomer Irvin and Cameron Clamon. On the girls’ side, the Lady Jacket Athlete of the Year went to Alicia Dennis.
The Kemp Yellowjackets and Lady Yellowjackets wrap up another successful 2018-19 season as they prepare for the summer offseason to build towards next year.
