Kerens put up 70 on Cross Roads in road district win
CROSS ROADS–The Kerens Lady ‘Cats moved to 2-0 in district play Tuesday, Jan. 14 after defeating Cross Roads, 70-20.
Earlier, Kerens opened district play with a 57-30 win over Frost, led by Alexius McAdams with 18 points. Kerens followed that up with another hot hand, taking a 16-0 lead against Cross Roads, which had dropped its first district contest to Itasca.
Kerens forced two timeouts in a span of seconds after accumulating four consecutive steals and baskets coming out of the first play stoppage, including two hoops from Reece Wright and single scores from Kecie Langley and Kaylee Reed.
Natalie Fulton of Cross Roads put her team on the board with a driving layup late in the first period, but Kerens continued to pour it on, taking a 33-2 lead topped off by a Langley assist to McAdams underneath. Anna Cook nailed a 3-pointer for Cross Roads as time wound down on the first half, but Langley answered soon after to give Kerens a 35-5 halftime lead.
Kamryn Baker scored for Cross Roads with 5:19 left in the third period, which was matched by eight consecutive Kerens points to close out the third period, finalized by a Kenadee Lynch bucket to give her team a 55-7 lead.
Kerens outscored Cross Roads 15-13 in the final period to clinch the 70-20 win. During that time, Cross Roads was led by two Allie Williams baskets. Cook led Cross Roads with five points while Langley was the top Kerens scorer with 33 points.
