Kerens beats CR, moves to 4-3 in district

KERENS–The Kerens Lady ‘Cats volleyball team beat district opponent Cross Roads, 3-1, in Oct. 1 action, moving Kerens into a third-place tie with Cross Roads and Frankston in the district standings at 4-3.
Cayuga is in first place in District 21-2A, followed by second-place Neches. Against Cross Roads, which won the second set 25-20, Kerens took the first set by 27-25 and the third set by 26-24 to set up the deciding fourth set.
During that fourth set, Cross Roads took a 3-0 lead, which Kerens quickly tied. Cross Roads led by as many as four points before an Olivia Holt kill for Kerens got the Lady ‘Cats within one point, at 15-14. A Holt block point tied the set at 15, but an Allli Reynolds kill gave Cross Roads the lead again at 16-15.
A block point by Reynolds gave Cross Roads another four-point lead during the fourth set, at 19-15, prompting a Kerens timeout. Kerens then got within 19-18, with Cross Roads calling timeout. A Rylee Spivey kill for Kerens moved Kerens closer at 20-19, then a Cross Roads kill attempt into the net tied the fourth set at 20 points apiece.
A kill by Anna Cook of Cross Roads gave her team a 21-20 lead, which Elaysia Morgan tied at 21 with a kill of her own. Another Morgan kill put Kerens ahead 23-21. A Brooke Lawrence block point followed by another Cross Roads point tied the fourth set at 23.
Kerens took final control when a Cross Roads kill attempt fell out of bounds, followed by a Morgan kill, the latter of which gave Kerens a 25-23 fourth-set win that ended the match.
