KERENS–The Troup Tigers jumped out to an early lead over the Kerens Bobcats Dec. 17 before the Bobcats’ offense got untracked late in the first half and blew the game open, winning 55-36.
Troup led 9-6 with 1:43 left in the first period when Muziq Gunnell, who led Kerens with 21 points, tied the game with a three-pointer. The Bobcats took the lead again at 16-14 with 3:30 left in the second period on a Nehemiah Massey bucket. Four consecutive Gunnell baskets, including a three-pointer with 34 seconds left in the first half, gave Kerens a 27-16 halftime lead.
Halfway through the third period, an AJ Stevens hoop extended the Kerens advantage to 20 points, at 36-16. Two Troup timeouts sparked a small Tiger rally, with Troup ending the third period with two straight baskets to reduce the Kerens lead to 38-24.
Kerens regained its 20-point lead at 48-28 midway through the fourth period, when Antonio McAdams grabbed an offensive rebound and scored two points. Mykel Lattimore added a three-pointer with three minutes left in the game, and a Treylyn Lindsey turnaround bucket with a minute left accounted for the 55-36 final.
Following Gunnell, Kerens’ leading scorers included McAdams with 14 points, Lindsey with nine points, Stevens with four points, Lattimore with three points and Hunter Crawford and Massey each scoring two points.
