MILDRED–The Kerens Bobcats, who opened the season with a 26-7 win at Meridian, lost their second game of the year with a 20-7 loss at the Mildred Eagles, falling to 1-2.
An 88-yard punt return touchdown by Jaylon Harris, followed by an Adrian Solis extra-point kick, put Kerens on the board with 6:29 left in the game. Earlier, Ryan Priddy stopped a Mildred drive near the Kerens goal line with an interception with 6:55 left in the third quarter, which he returned 14 yards.
Kerens quarterback Brayden May found Musiq Gunnell with a 47-yard pass to the Mildred 28-yard line with 3:44 left in the third quarter, but Mildred stopped a Mykel Lattimore run for no gain on fourth-and-nine from the Mildred 12 with 2:15 before the fourth quarter. During the fourth quarter, the Kerens defense stopped another Eagle drive when Hunter Crawford recovered a Mildred fumble on the Bobcat 33-yard line with 9:51 remaining in the game.
Mildred, which built a 20-0 halftime lead, marched downfield on its opening drive and scored on a quarterback keeper, adding the two-point conversion pass. The Eagles later tacked on an 11-yard touchdown run and a 20-yard touchdown pass.
