Lady Bobcats top Westwood after court dedication
KERENS–The Kerens Lady ‘Cats would’ve made Ross L. Washington smile after whipping Palestine Westwood, 70-28, on the Nov. 15 night their home court was named for the aforementioned Kerens booster, who passed away earlier this year.
Class 2A Kerens followed up the win over Westwood with a Nov. 19, 61-45 victory against Buffalo, also a 3A opponent. The Kerens boys are scheduled to open their season with a Nov. 25 home game against Trinity, yet another 3A team.
Versus Westwood, Kerens jumped out to a 37-4 lead. Reece Wright, who along with Kecie Langley led Kerens with 12 points apiece, hit a three-pointer at the end of the first half to give the Lady ‘Cats a 42-14 halftime advantage.
Madison Parks of Kerens made a three-pointer halfway through the third period to extend the Lady ‘Cat lead to 53-17. Westwood got within 53-21 entering the fourth period, but Kerens outscored Westwood 17-7 the rest of the game, topped off by a Kaylee Reed free throw with seven seconds left.
In addition to leading scorers Wright and Langley, Aniya Lawrence and Reed added 11 points each, Parks and Teniyah Washington totaled eight points apiece, Alexius McAdams contributed six points and Katie Atkeisson scored two points.
