CROSS ROADS–After dropping the first set Sept. 29, the Kerens Lady ‘Cats volleyball team won three-straight sets to defeat Cross Roads and move to 10-4 on the season and 4-3 in district play.
Cross Roads, which is now 3-4 after the first half of play in District 21-2A, took a 7-5 first-set lead on a Preslie Penex kill. That Cross Roads lead grew to 10-5 with Jansyn Hughes serving, and up to 16-7 with Alexis Kenniston serving.
Two Alexius McAdams blocks brought Kerens back within 19-11, but Cross Roads reeled off five consecutive points, including three aces from Alli Reynolds, and topped off their first-set win, 25-13.
Cross Roads then took a 5-0 second-set lead. After a Kerens timeout, two McAdams blocks, a Kenadee Lynch ace and a point from Reece Wright tied the set at 6. An Elaysia Morgan kill, another McAdams block and an Aniya Lawrence ace extended the Kerens lead to 17-10. Abbigail Holt’s three aces later fueled Kerens’ 25-12 second-set win.
After a Lynch ace tied the third set at 2 points apiece, Kerens took the lead. That lead held until a Brooke Lawrence ace gave Cross Roads a 13-12 advantage. The close set continued, but Morgan helped Kerens clinch the third set with a kill and a block, the latter of which culminated Kerens’ 25-19 third-set win.
Falling behind in the fourth set, 8-2, Cross Roads came back to within 8-7, but Olivia Holt, Wright, Morgan and McAdams proved too strong and led Kerens to the match-clinching 25-19 fourth-set victory.
