KERENS–The Kerens Lady ‘Cats softball team is set to face Big Sandy for the bi-district championship in a best two-of-three series at Emory Rains High School, scheduled April 30 and May 1.
Also, the Kerens Bobcats baseball team is fighting for a playoff spot and faced Martin’s Mill earlier this week to help decide the fourth team from District 20-2A to advance to postseason. Kerens also has two games against Frankston to close the regular season.
Before playing Martin’s Mill, Kerens swept the Neches Tigers in an April 20 baseball doubleheader, winning 10-3 and 12-3. In game one, Trayton Spivey struck out 10 Neches batters while allowing four hits.
At the plate, Ryan Priddy and Cody Crawford each had two singles, while Addison Carter, Kam Hall, Danny Conklin and AJ Stevens added doubles to their team total. Hall drove in three runs with his two-bagger.
In game two, Carter helped Priddy log a complete-game victory on the mound with three RBI. Priddy also drove in two runs, as did first baseman Chris Jones. Freshman Lane Lynch added an RBI and scored two runs.
Earlier in April, Kerens defeated Cross Roads 10-4 and 12-1, respectively. In the first game, played April 6, Kerens exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to overcome a 4-2 deficit. In game two, played April 9, Kerens scored five runs in the top of the second inning to add to their 1-0 lead, then plated three more runs in both the fourth and seventh innings to secure the win at Cross Roads.
