Kerens XC runner qualifies for state meet

HUNTSVILLE–Cesar Solis of Kerens High School has qualified for the Saturday, Nov. 9 Class 2A Texas Cross Country Championships at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, becoming the first Kerens runner to compete at the state meet.
To qualify for the state meet, Solis turned in a time of 18 minutes, 29.9 seconds at the Monday, Oct. 28 Class 2A Region 3 Championships hosted by Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, finishing No. 12 out of 159 runners.
Solis moved to the regional meet after taking second place at the District 19-2A cross country meet, held Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Lake Halbert Park in Corsicana. Joshua Delgado of Kerens also qualified for the Huntsville regional meet after finishing in sixth place at the district race, the latter of which also featured runners from Cross Roads, Cayuga, Italy, Frost and Itasca.
At district, Solis completed the course in 18 minutes, 21.4 seconds. Delgado ran the district race in 19 minutes, 31.48 seconds and finished the regional course in just over 20 minutes. Both Kerens High School students are seniors.
