Kemp drops opening district contest against Scurry-Rosser
KEMP–The Kemp Lady Yellowjackets fell in their first game of district play Sept. 13 at home against the Scurry-Rosser Lady Wildcats.
Kemp got off to a great start in their first set as they opened a 6-2 lead over Scurry-Rosser to force a Lady Wildcats timeout.
The Lady ’Jackets increased their lead to 10-6 before Scurry-Rosser began to battle back.
A 10-3 run from the Lady Wildcats put Kemp down 16-13, forcing a Lady ’Jackets timeout.
Another 5-2 run forced another Kemp timeout before the Lady Wildcats finished off the Lady ’Jackets 25-19 in the first set.
The Lady ’Jackets struggled early in the second set as they fell behind 6-0. A 4-3 run made it a 10-3 contest, leading to Kemp’s first timeout of the second set.
A 13-7 run made it 23-10 late in the second set before the Lady Wildcats ended the set with a 25-11 win over the Lady ’Jackets.
The two teams battle back and forth in the third set as they sat tied 3-3. The Lady ’Jackets eventually fell behind 7-5. After a 5-1 stretch from Scurry-Rosser, Kemp took a timeout to try and regain their footing as they trailed 12-6.
A kill late from Julianna Warren got Kemp into the double digits to make it a 17-11 contest.
An 8-2 run by the Lady Wildcats would end the night as they topped the Lady ’Jackets 25-13 to win three sets to zero.
A loss drops the Lady ’Jackets to 1-9 overall and 0-1 to begin district play. Kemp returns to the court Friday, Sept. 20 against the Mildred Lady Eagles on the road with a 4:30 p.m. start.
