Lady ’Jackets fall to Lady Trojans

Trinidad sweeps Kemp in three straight sets

TRINIDAD–The Kemp Lady Yellowjackets fell in three straight sets to the Trinidad Lady Trojans on the road Sept. 3.
Kemp Lady ’Jacket Shelby Fidler began the game with two aces and Kemp jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the Lady Trojans. The Lady Trojans rattled off three straight points to tie the set 3-3. Four straight points bookended by a kill from senior Eryn Airheart put Trinidad in front 7-3.
Another kill by Lady Trojan Ashlee Stevenson put Trinidad up 10-4, forcing a Kemp timeout.
A 9-6 run ending with a kill by Trinidad’s Lana Stovall put the Lady Trojans ahead 19-10 late. Trinidad finished off the set with a 25-12 victory to take a one set to none lead.
Kemp once again jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the second set. A 7-2 run by the Lady Trojans put Trinidad in front 8-6. Sam Sims added another kill for Trinidad to increase their lead over Kemp to 16-10.
Four more points for the Lady Trojans forced another Lady ’Jackets timeout.
Kemp’s Lauren Simons came out of the timeout with a kill for the Lady ’Jackets to make it a 20-11 game.
Kemp managed just one more point as the Lady Trojans would take the second set by a final score of 25-12.
The two teams battled back and forth in the third set, sitting at 4-4 and 6-6 ties. A 5-2 run ending with a block from Sims put Trinidad back in front 11-8. Another point from the Lady Trojans led to a Lady ’Jackets timeout.
A late block from Airheart increased the Lady Trojans lead to 21-14. The Lady ’Jackets got just three more points with Trinidad taking home the 25-17 victory as they topped Kemp in three straight sets.
The Lady ’Jackets return to action Sept. 10 at home against Mineola at 5 p.m. Kemp begins district play Sept. 13 at home against the Scurry-Rosser Lady Wildcats at 4:30 p.m.
