Lady ’Jackets tame Lions, move to 3-1 in district

KEMP–The Kemp Lady Yellowjackets pulled out another win in district play over the Blooming Grove Lady Lions at home Jan. 4.
The Lady ’Jackets brought their offense on Tuesday night as they topped the Lady Lions, 52-31.
Tenilee Anthony dropped the first two baskets for Kemp as the two teams sat tied early, 4-4.
After the Lady ’Jackets fell behind 7-5, Kemp went on a 4-0 run, bookended by a steal and a layup from Danica Barnett to move back in front 9-7.
Anthony added a late layup to give Kemp a 15-8 lead heading into the second quarter.
Despite an early layup from Liberti Tally in the second quarter, Kemp struggled to put up many points with just six to take a 21-15 lead into halftime.
The offense kicked back into gear to begin the second half with a three-pointer from Barnett and two free throws from Anthony to increase their lead to 28-17.
Kemp added eight more points in the quarter as they almost doubled their lead over Blooming Grove, 36-19, heading into the fourth quarter.
Barnett hit an early layup in the fourth quarter to make it a 38-20 game. A late three-point shot from Taylor Carr and two Anthony free throws sealed the win for Kemp, 52-31.
Anthony led the way for the Lady ’Jackets with 23 points in the win over the Lady Lions.
Barnett added 12 points with Tally notching nine points for Kemp.
Prior to the game, Kemp honored seniors Morgan Adrio, Micah Miller, Brittany Peppers, Matalie Wright, Hailey Thomas, Kaitlyn Strong and Taylor Carr.
Kemp moves to 9-10 overall and 3-1 to begin district play.
