Kemp falls to Mexia at home after rough first half
KEMP–The Kemp Lady Yellowjackets varsity basketball squad dropped an early season contest to the Mexia Black Cats at home Nov. 12.
The Black Cats notched the first four points of the night to take an early 4-0 lead over the Lady ’Jackets.
Kemp responded with four straight points to tie the game 4-4 early in the first quarter.
The Lady ’Jackets would add one more point on a Callie Vanover free throw the rest of the first quarter as the Black Cats added 11 to take a 15-5 lead after the first eight minutes.
The Black Cats opened the second quarter with a dominating 15-0 run to take a commanding 30-5 lead over the Lady ’Jackets.
Kemp finally added one point on a free throw as they finished the final eight minutes of the first half with just one point as they trailed Mexia 32-6 at halftime.
Kemp finally got some offense rolling in the third quarter as Julianna Warren added four points for the Lady ’Jackets in the third quarter as Kemp notched nine points in the quarter compared to 10 points for Mexia as the Black Cats still led, 42-15, after three quarters.
The Lady ’Jackets put six more points on the board before the end of the night as Kemp fell 54-21 on their home court against the Black Cats.
Warren led the way offensively for the Lady ’Jackets as she notched 10 out of the 21 points for Kemp against Mexia.
Vanover added five points with Taylor Carr contributing three points against the Black Cats.
The Lady ’Jackets return to action at home Tuesday, Nov. 19 against Life Oak Cliff with tipoff set for 6:30 p.m.
