Kemp girls take down Palmer at home
KEMP–The Kemp Lady Yellowjackets picked up a big win in their 2019-20 district opener over the Palmer Lady Bulldogs Dec. 17 to wrap up their final home game before the New Year.
After a defensive stalemate to begin the contest, Chloe Woods hit a three-pointer to get Kemp on the board first, 3-0.
Julianna Warren then picked up an and-1 for the Lady ’Jackets to increase their lead to 7-1 over Palmer.
Kemp would carry a 9-5 lead heading into the second quarter.
The Lady ’Jackets dominated defensively in the second quarter as they only allowed Palmer four points as they rattled off 11 points to take a 20-9 lead into halftime.
The Lady Bulldogs surged offensively in the third quarter as they put 11 points up on the board to make it a 24-20 game with Kemp holding a slim four-point lead as they went into the fourth quarter.
The Lady ’Jackets held their own in the fourth quarter as they kept Palmer to just four points in the final eight minutes to take a 34-24 win over the Lady Bulldogs.
Tenilee Anthony led the Lady ’Jackets with 14 points in the win over Palmer.
Warren added eight points while Woods notched five points for Kemp as they picked up the home victory.
The win moves the Lady ’Jackets to 4-5 overall and 1-0 to begin district play.
Kemp hits the court again in 2020 Friday, Jan. 3 on the road against Mildred with tipoff set for 6:15 p.m.
