Eustace notches 10th district win of season
EUSTACE–The Eustace Lady Bulldogs picked up the sweep Friday, Oct. 9 at home against the Malakoff Lady Tigers for their 10th district win of 2020.
The Lady Bulldogs forced an early timeout in the first set as they rattled off the first five points to go ahead 5-0.
The Lady Tigers clawed their way back to make it a 16-9 game late. Eustace was able to close out the contest with a 9-5 run to win 25-14.
After Eustace took an early 5-4 lead, Malakoff battled back to take a 7-6 lead.
The Lady Tigers were still ahead late 20-19, but the Lady Bulldogs came back with a 6-3 run to end the second set with a 25-23 win.
The two teams were tied a majority of the way through the third set before Eustace were able to squeak out the last few points to win, 25-23 and take the game three sets to zero.
Rubi Bailey led the Lady Bulldogs with 21 kills and seven digs in the win over Malakoff.
Emma Bell notched nine kills, Georgia Utz had six kills and Alyssa Lane added two kills.
Havynn Mahaffey led the way for Eustace with 22 assists with Gracey Pitchford adding in 15 assists and three aces against the Lady Tigers.
The loss drops the Lady Tigers to 9-8 overall and 5-5 in district play. Malakoff returns to action Oct. 20 on the road against the Blooming Grove Lady Lions at 6 p.m.
The win moves the Lady Bulldogs to 17-1 overall on the season with a 10-1 district record. Eustace returns Oct. 16 against on the road against the Scurry-Rosser Lady Wildcats at 4:30 p.m.
