Eustace victorious on Senior night, heading to postseason
EUSTACE–The Eustace Lady Bulldogs clinched their first postseason berth since the 2013 season with a big district win over the Rice Lady Bulldogs on Senior night April 16.
Eustace honored their lone senior Nancy Paige Lowe prior to their district contest against Rice Tuesday night.
Eustace starting pitcher Brooklyn Moore allowed a leadoff walk to Rice to start the top of the first inning but came back with a dominant effort as she struck out three straight batters to end the Rice threat.
Alyssa Lane led off the top of the first with a leadoff walk for Eustace and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Ashton Milner’s sacrifice bunt moved Lane over to third base. After an infield pop out, Dawson Davlin delivered with a two-out RBI single to give Eustace a 1-0 lead after one inning.
Eustace followed that up with a one-out single by Lowe in the bottom of the second inning. After an error allowed Lowe to advance to second base, Lane came through with a ringing RBI triple to give Eustace a 2-0 lead after the second inning.
Moore sat down the Rice batters in order in the top of the third to bring the potent Eustace offense back to the plate in the bottom half of the inning.
Moore laid down a bunt and a single from Davlin put runners on second and third. Kayla Lovelady reached on a fielders’ choice and made it a 3-0 game for Eustace. A double from Gracey Pitchford and an RBI fielder’s choice for Lowe made it 4-0 Eustace. A ground ball and a throwing error added another run for Eustace before Lane added an RBI single as Eustace led 7-0 after three innings.
Rice finally got on the board in the top of the fourth inning to make it a 7-1 game.
Eustace added another run in the bottom of the fourth and fifth inning to increase their lead to 9-1.
Rice would add two late runs, but it wasn’t enough as Eustace punched their ticket to the playoffs with a big 9-3 victory over Rice.
Lane picked up three hits and two RBIs in the win over Rice. Lovelady added two hits with Lowe adding two RBIs at the plate.
Moore was dominant on the stripe for Eustace going seven strong innings with 17 strikeouts in the district win.
Eustace will have a week to practice before they begin their 2019 postseason.
Eustace enters the Bi-district round as they will take on the Grandview Lady Zebras Thursday, April 25 at Ennis High School with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday night at the neutral site.
