Eustace picks up fifth district win at home
EUSTACE–The Eustace Lady Bulldogs took down the Rice Lady Bulldogs on the first day of October in their home district contest.
Eustace jumped out to an early 6-3 lead before making it a 12-5 game shortly after on back to back kills from Rubi Bailey, forcing Rice to take a timeout quickly to try and stop Eustace’s momentum.
Georgia Utz came out from the timeout with an ace for Eustace to increase their lead to 14-5.
A late kill from Cloie Ahrens pushed Eustace to the 20-point threshold as they took a 20-10 lead over Rice.
Eustace finished with aces on three of the final five points from freshman Emma Bell as they defeated Rice 25-15 in the first set.
Eustace opened a 3-1 lead over Rice early in the second set and increased it to 9-2 later on a kill from Utz.
After increasing their lead to 18-7, Rice took another timeout to try and slow Eustace. It wouldn’t work as a late tip from Havynn Mahaffey put Eustace over the top as they downed Rice handily, 25-11, in the second set.
Eustace fell behind for the first time all night as Rice stormed to an early 3-2 lead before Eustace tied the third set back up at 6-6.
A 4-1 run from Eustace gave them a 10-7 lead, forcing another Rice timeout.
A tip from Kierra Abrahamson pushed the Eustace lead to 15-9 before Rice began their comeback.
A 7-3 run cut the deficit to 18-16 in favor of Eustace. A kill and an ace from Bell late made it a 22-18 game before Utz finished off Rice with one final ace as Eustace took the third set 25-19, winning three sets to none.
Bailey led the way for Eustace with 15 kills in the win over Rice. Alyssa Lane added six kills in the win with Utz delivering eight kills.
The win moves Eustace to 21-8 overall on the season with a 5-1 district record. Eustace returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 8 on the road against Blooming Grove at 4:30 p.m.
