Lady Bulldogs stumble against Blooming Grove

Eustace falls to 4-8 in district play with loss to Lady Lions

EUSTACE–The Eustace Lady Bulldogs lost their district contest Jan. 29 at home against the Blooming Grove Lady Lions.
The Lady Lions roared out to a 6-0 lead to begin the first quarter before Madison Holbert got the Lady Bulldogs on the board with a three-pointer. 
After a Eustace timeout with 4:24 remaining in the first quarter, Lily Sorrells added a two-point shot to cut the deficit to 8-5.
The Lady Lions would end the first quarter on a 5-2 run to take a 13-7 lead after the first eight minutes of play. 
Kendall Lowery began the second quarter with two free throws for the Lady Bulldogs to make it a 15-9 game. 
Eustace would manage just two more points in the first half on a layup from Ashton Milner off a pass from Kedria Hurd as the Lady Bulldogs entered halftime trailing 23-11.
Lowery opened the second half with a three-pointer for the Lady Bulldogs to make it a 23-14 game in the opening minute.
Holbert added another jump shot while Sorrells picked up a block, steal and layup to cut the deficit to 33-18. 
After another 6-0 run by the Lady Lions, Sorrells knocked down a three-pointer to make it a 39-21 contest.
Eustace called a timeout late with possession with only 3.7 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
Sorrells took the inbound pass and took a few steps as her shot hit off the back of the rim as the Lady Bulldogs still trailed 39-21 entering the fourth quarter.
Eustace started to cut into the deficit early in the fourth quarter as Sorrells added a free throw, along with a three-point shot from Holbert to make it 41-25.
Cearra Warren added a steal and layup for Eustace to cut the deficit to 43-27.
Sorrells and Gracey Pitchford added two late layups, but the Lady Bulldogs fell short as Blooming Grove took the victory 55-35.
Sorrells led the way for Eustace with 14 points against the Lady Lions.
Holbert added eight points while Lowery deposited five points in the game against Blooming Grove.
The loss drops the Lady Bulldogs to 5-14 overall and 4-8 in district play for the season.
Eustace returns to the court Tuesday, Feb. 5 as they hit the road for their final regular season contest of 2019 against the Palmer Lady Bulldogs with tipoff for varsity set for 6 p.m.
