Lady Bulldogs stumble on Senior night

Eustace drops regular season finale against Scurry-Rosser

EUSTACE–The Eustace Lady Bulldogs finished their regular season with a loss to the Scurry-Rosser Lady Wildcats Oct. 29 at home.
Eustace honored their seniors before the game for their years of dedication with the volleyball program.
The Lady Wildcats opened with the first three points of the first set before kills from Emma Bell and Georgia Utz.
A great battle between the two that included three to four digs from each team lead to a point for Eustace to make it a 6-3 game.
A 5-1 run for Scurry-Rosser made it 11-4, leading to a Eustace timeout.
Eustace got two kills late from senior Maggie Groom and Utz, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Bulldogs fell 25-16 in the first set.
The Lady Wildcats broke open the second set with a 7-2 lead, forcing another Eustace timeout.
A 7-4 run from the Lady Wildcats made it a 14-6 lead for Scurry-Rosser. The Lady Wildcats would finish off the Lady Bulldogs 25-16 as they moved in front two sets to zero.
After Scurry-Rosser took a 3-1 lead to begin the third set, an ace from Alyssa Lane tied the game for Eustace, 3-3.
A block late from Groom tied the set 10-10 before Scurry-Rosser rattled off three straight points. A block from Eustace’s Rubi Bailey cut the Lady Wildcats lead to 13-12.
Eustace managed just seven more points in the set as they fell 25-19 as Scurry-Rosser defeated Eustace three sets to zero.
Utz and Bailey led the Lady Bulldogs with seven kills apiece against the Lady Wildcats. Bell added three aces for Eustace in the loss to Scurry-Rosser.
The loss wraps up Eustace’s regular season as they finish with a 27-10 overall record and 11-3 in district play as the Lady Bulldogs finished in second place in the 3A Region III, District 18 standings.
Eustace now awaits their Bi-district playoff matchup, which is yet to be determined. Bi-district playoffs run Nov. 4-5.
