Lady Bulldogs sweep Frankston at home

Eustace takes down Lady Maidens in straight sets

EUSTACE–The Eustace Lady Bulldogs swept the Frankston Lady Maidens in three straight sets Aug. 27 at home.
Frankston jumped out to an early lead they went ahead 6-3. Eustace battled their way back to tie the set 6-6 with a kill from Emma Bell. A kill from Georgia Utz put the Lady Bulldogs ahead 7-6, forcing a Frankston timeout early in the first set.
Another kill from Maggie Groom put Eustace ahead by four as they increased their lead to 13-9. Bell added a late ace to make it a 21-17 game over Frankston. Eustace would finish off the first set 25-19.
Alyssa Lane began the second set with a kill for the Lady Bulldogs to take a 1-0 lead. An ace from Lane, followed by a block from Groom increased the Eustace lead to 8-3 as Frankston quickly called timeout to stop the Lady Bulldogs’ surge.  
The Lady Bulldogs continued their strong push with a double block from Groom and Utz to make it a 16-5 game in favor of Eustace as the Lady Maidens took another timeout. Eustace gave up just four points the rest of the set as they took the second set in dominating fashion, 25-9.
A kill from Utz in the third set put them ahead 6-2. A 7-6 run from Frankston kept them close as Eustace still led 12-9. A late serving error by the Lady Maidens made it a 20-12 game with the Lady Bulldogs looking to finish off the sweep.
A 7-4 run from Frankston made it a 24-19 game, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Lady Bulldogs topped the Lady Maidens 25-20 to sweep three sets to zero.
Groom and Bell had five kills for Eustace while Utz and Lane each had nine kills in the win over Frankston. Groom also added five solo blocks on defense for Eustace.
Havynn Mahaffey was the set-up player all night long with 29 assists in the three-set sweep over Frankston.
The win moves Eustace to an impressive 15-5 overall on the season.
Eustace returns to the court Tuesday, Sept. 3 as they take on the Mabank Lady Panthers on the road beginning at 4:30 p.m.
