Lady Panthers fall behind, can’t recover

Mabank girls tripped up against Eaglettes

MABANK–The Mabank Lady Panthers dropped their district contest against the Canton Eaglettes Feb. 4 at home.
Drew Neighbors kicked off the night with a basket for the Lady Panthers to put them up 2-0.
Canton followed up with five unanswered points to take a 5-2 lead over Mabank.
The Lady Panthers outscored the Eaglettes 6-4 the rest of the first quarter but trailed 9-8 after the first eight minutes of play.
Lauren Carter knocked down two free throws to begin the second quarter to put Mabank back in front, 10-9.
A three-pointer from Lainey Kirkland increased the Lady Panthers’ lead to 13-9.
After cutting the deficit to 13-12, Mabank called a timeout with 4:17 left in the first half.
The Lady Panthers managed just two more points the rest of the quarter as Canton took an 18-15 into halftime.
Laney Davenport began the third quarter with a three-pointer for Mabank to tie the game, 18-18.
Mabank struggled offensively the remainder of the third quarter as they added just four more points, trailing 35-22 heading into the fourth quarter.
Halle Partridge added the first points of the fourth quarter for the Lady Panthers exactly halfway through the quarter on a layup to make it a 38-24 game.
Chesley Kirkland added a late free throw with Carter notching a late layup but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Panthers fell at home 44-29.
The Lady Panthers were led by Carter, who notched seven points against Canton.
Mabank returns to action for their final regular season game Tuesday, Feb. 11 at home against the Brownsboro Bearettes for Senior Night with tipoff set for 6:15 p.m.
