Lady Panthers win shortened opener

MABANK–The Mabank Lady Panthers won their season opener over the Eustace Lady Bulldogs at home Nov. 9.
Mabank’s Bailey Litchfield hit the first three-pointer of the season to put the Lady Panthers in front 3-0 early in the first quarter.
Mabank increased their lead to 10-5 before Eustace took a timeout late in the first quarter with 3:52 remaining.
The Lady Bulldogs struggled late in the first quarter as they also deal with a left knee injury to junior Izzy McCord in the final minute. McCord did not return to the game.
Lauren Carter hit two early free throws in the second quarter to make it 19-10 in favor of Mabank.
Carley Sapp added a three-point shot before a layup from Brylee Miller to make it 25-11 at halftime for the Lady Panthers.
Mabank’s lone score of the second half came on a three-pointer from Carter with the only point from the Lady Bulldogs coming courtesy of a free throw as Mabank won 28-12 after the game ended early with Eustace leaving the court with 4:06 remaining in the third quarter.
Carter led the way for the Lady Panthers with nine points, Sapp with six points and Litchfield finished with four points.
Emma Fisher finished with four points in the loss for the Lady Bulldogs.
