Lady Panthers wrap up pre-district with sweep

MABANK–The Mabank Lady Panthers wrapped up their pre-district schedule with a sweep of the Palestine Lady Wildcats at home Sept. 24.
Lexi Winklevoss picked up the first kill of the night to tie the first set 1-1 against Palestine.
Landi Ross and Drew Neighbors each added kills in the first set as the Lady Panthers increased their lead to 20-15 late. Winklevoss finished off the Lady Wildcats 25-21 in the first set with one final kill.
After an early 10-4 run, Palestine took a timeout to try and regain momentum against Mabank. Neighbors added another kill as the Lady Panthers increased their lead to 16-6.
A late kill from junior Sam Fiore sealed the second set as the Lady Panthers took a 25-17 victory.
After falling behind 4-1 to begin the third set, a kill from Neighbors tied the set 5-5 before Jasmine Turner put the Lady Panthers in front 6-5.
Winklevoss increased the lead late for Mabank with another kill as they bumped their lead to 15-11.
Two late kills from Fiore finished off the Lady Wildcats as Mabank won 25-19, taking the game in three straight sets.
The win moves the Lady Panthers to 15-18 overall. Mabank begins the district portion of their schedule Sept. 27, and continues that run Tuesday, Oct. 1 on the road against the Athens Lady Hornets at 5 p.m.
